Bella Canvas x DTLA Print

We teamed up with our friends at Bella + Canvas to create a few helpful videos on specialty techniques for screen printing and sublimation. Below you will find a few videos explaining the process, general do’s and dont’s, as well as some helpful tips when it comes to selecting the right garments. We also talk about guidelines to keep in mind while designing your artwork. We hope you find these videos informative and helpful!

DYE SUBLIMATION PRINTING ON BELLA + CANVAS TEES

Bella + Canvas developed some extraordinary new poly cotton blend styles and asked us to sublimate a few of these styles from their new Fast Fashion collection. In the video we show how the fabric contents of each different style effect the print results. As a quick note, the higher the poly or the synthetic fiber percentage in the fabric, the more vibrant your image. Vice versa the less poly/synthetic fibers the more vintage and washed your artwork will look. Here are a few quick links to the products in the videos. The Bella + Canvas 3650 Unisex Poly-Cotton Tee, which is 50% poly, 37.5% cotton and 12.5% rayon, allows for a super cool distressed look, and the 3414 Unisex Triblend Raw Neck Tee, which is 50% poly, 25% cotton, 25% rayon, breathes great and allows for the same all over sublimation printing.

Specialty Screen Printing Technique

One of our favorite screen printing techniques is the reverse push through. This technique works especially well with blended fabrics as it allows for the waterbased inks to create a truly unique vintage effect utilizing the highs and lows of the fabric content. The poly and cotton threads take the color differently resulting in a different color variations and shades from the same ink color. We hope you enjoy!

Burn Out Printing

Burn Out Printing is a technique that is widely used across the clothing industries. While more common on womens graphics, over the past few years burn out screen printing has been seen more and more on male and unisex graphics as well. The burn out process is similar to traditional screen printing how ever rather than printing with ink, a chemical is laid down which eats away at the natural fiber contents of the garment. In this video we used the Bella Canvas 3413 which is 50% polyester, 25% cotton, and 25% rayon. At the end of the video we share some useful tips to keep in mind as this print process is not for beginners.
